Trips and Expeditions
This policy and advice is available to all. However some of the links and files attached to these are restricted to staff and you will not be able to access them. If you feel you need to access them please contact the Deputy Organisation.
Trips and expeditions involving staff and pupils from Wellington need coordinating. The Deputy Organisation is responsible for this.
Essentially there are two sorts of trip - Residential Trips and Day Trips.
The School Policy on Educational Visits is available on-line. Various links are below.
For day trips the procedure and policy outlined on these pages must be followed.
For residential trips away, you go to the planning a trip page and are led through the process stage by stage. For residential trips the risk assessment process is significantly different to that for day trips.
A list of the proposed residential holidays trips with further details can be found here.
The DfES have published guidelines (generally referred to as HASPEV) and these guidelines are what all our trips and expeditions should follow. A copy can be found here. The Deputy Organisation has paper copies. (Although these have been reviewed by the government and simplified we have not changed our procedures.) Specific advice from the DfES entitled Group Safety at Water Margins can be found here.
The DfES advice for group leaders can be found here and for those running adventure trips, the specific DfES guidelines can be found here. Finally if you really are into DfES speak, the last thing they have put out in their trips package is called "Standards for LEAS in overseeing educational visits" - a great read.
The Deputy Organisation acts as the trips coordinator and is responsible for seeing that the policies are followed.
