Duke of Edinburgh
There is a healthy participation in the DofE Award at Wellington. We have approximately 80 participants at Bronze, 30 at Silver and 30 at Gold. The expeditions change in location, but we regularly use the local Lambourne Downs and the Breacon Beacons.. At Gold level the students choose between canoeing and walking expeditions.
CCF
Almost 50% of pupils involved. Some revel in the Corps of Drums, field gun and mounted cavalry whilst others benefit from the practical leadership and teamwork developed in standard training. Well-attended camps over holiday periods include attachments to regular military units. Field days and outdoor weekends in term provide challenging escapes for pupils. A new Contingent Commander is one of 5 former military officers who work with other enthusiastic staff to continually enhance the experience offered.

Charities
2009 has seen the College celebrate its 150th anniversary. During this year, the focus of the school's charity fundraising has been to try to raise £150,000 for the Hope and Homes charity. Pupils have, as ever, amazed with their fundraising activities. A cross Channel swim, sponsored walk, charity fashion show, online auction and organised socials are but a few of the successful events that have helped raise money.
All pupils at Wellington are involved in fund raising. Whether that is organising House charity events, whole School events or simply getting involved in the activities organised by their peers. Students are encouraged to use their own initiatives and interests in order to come up with new fundraising ideas.
Music
There are a multitude of music activities for pupils on offer in the school and concerts every week from the informal variety to orchestral, choral, rock or jazz.
Three pupils sing in the National Youth Choir and we have one pupil on the front desk of the cellos in the National Youth Orchestra.
A number of pupils attend Junior Conservatoires in London on Saturdays.
Concerto opportunities have included one pupil performing the Elgar Cello Concerto with a professional orchestra and a different pupil performing the Haydn Cello Concerto with the London Mozart Players. There are plans for pupils to perform concerto movements with the school orchestra as well as a pupil performing the Shostakovich Cello Concerto and a pupil performing the Mozart Clarinet Concerto.
6 Pupils have performed as vocal soloists with the local Choral Society.
The London Mozart Players are our "orchestra-in-residence" and have given a number of Masterclasses. Masterclasses have also been given by Oystein Baardsvik (tuba), Roderick Williams (voice), Ian Clarke (flute), Remus Azoitei (violin), Emma Johnson (clarinet) and Gordon Giltrap (Guitar) in the last year. Many pupils have been involved individually and performed to them.
There have been performances at St John's, Smith Square; St Martin-in-the-fields, Winchester cathedral, St Paul's Cathedral and Southhill Park as well as many performances within school.
Singer-Songwriting successes have included Imogen Halsey at a National Songwriting competition and there are a number of successful pupils performing and recording under the label "College Couch". This label is organised and run by 6th form pupils.
There is a jazz club giving increasing opportunities for performance with a focus on improvisation.
A number of pupils have achieved Grade 8 distinction in instrumental examinations.
Drama
The Performing Arts are a major part of school life, with one large-scale production every half term, including a Panto, Talent Shows, big budget musicals, open air productions, house drama and dance shows. There is one student directed production per year, this academic year this will be Frost / Nixon. We aim to run a good balance of serious, comic and musical productions in order that there is something for ability, interest and age group to audition for.
We also have residencies by touring theatre companies and a youth theatre in residence who work with Wellington students on our pantomime. LAMDA is also a very popular extra curricular activity, with over 50 students study for their speech and drama awards at every level.
The Drama department also puts on productions at the Edinburgh Festival and tours internationally. Our Fringe production of Jason and the Argonauts gained 4 star reviews and was short listed for a prize in the National Student Drama Festival. This academic year we will be taking a production of Othello to Beijing and Hong Kong
Dance is also thriving, with three classes run per week catering for every ability and style. Third form Dance club currently has 30 members, our most popular activity. Dance shows are performed at the end of every term
