A2 Music

The second year of the A level course develops from the AS, building on performace, composition and analytical skills.

The course consists of the following elements:

Unit 4: Extended Performance 15%

12-15 minute asessed performance - either as soloist or as part of an ensemble.

Unit 5: Composition & technical study 15%

Two tasks completed:

Either two technical studies; one composition (3 minutes based upon chosen brief) & one technical study; two compositions based upon two chosen briefs.

Unit 6: Further musical understanding 20%

2 hour written exam in three sections:

1) Aural Analysis

2) Music in context

3) Continuity and change in instrumental music
