Performance:
- do you enjoy performing or do you want to include your skills within a public examination?
- You need to be about Grade 5/6 standard.
Composition or stylistic composition:
- on paper or on computer, no stylistic limitations with your composing
- stylistic composition demands a stricter programme
Understanding Music
- setworks in a number of styles
- musical appreciation and analysis - get to know how other composers wrote music.
The course is split into three units.

Performing - externally assessed solo performance (grade 5/6) of one or more solo pieces (lasting 5-6 minutes) |

Composition of a 3 minute piece based upon a brief that you will be able to choose from those set by Edexcel at the start of the course. 15 hours supervised time to complete, recorded and sent to an Edexcel examiner for marking. Also to write a CD sleeve note describing the structure and important features of your composition and to explain any important influences. |
