ISGA - round 1 Wellington College 'B' V Seaford

On Tuesday 9th October Wellington played Seaford College in the Independent Schools Golf Association Knockout at Wildwood Country Club.

In the Team there was Sam Williams, Murray Rose and Jordan Mann.

The weather was not very good at all, and we were wet before we started.  We all started very badly and after 9 holes we were all down in our matches. The weather cheered up a bit on the back nine and it was only spitting, and we all played a lot better. We all pulled our matches back and I won 4 & 3, Murray won 2&1 and Sam won his match on the 18th.

We all played well on the back nine, and we got through.

We will then play Canford soon.

ISGA - round 2 Wellington College 'B' v Canford

The second round was played in considerably better conditions that seemed to favour the team. The sun was shining and there was a slight breeze. Unlike the previous venue of Wildwood, South Winchester golf club was in reasonable condition on the well draining turf, typical of golf courses. Despite the greens being rather inconsistent because of the work that had occurred that morning, it did not phase the team and we got on with the job.

However, the matches started not as well as we hoped with 'number 1' Jordan Mann suffering a heart-wrenching loss on the final green, his first loss for Wellington.

Fortunately the other two matches made up for Jordan's loss. I went out at number 2 and started well, maintaining a good lead for the whole round right from the off until the 17th, where I shook hands for a solid

2 & 1 victory. It was then left to Sam Williams at the back, who got off to fast start to be 3 up at the turn. He managed to hold his lead for the majority of the back nine with many wins and losses along the way for a 2 & 1 win and an overall 2 - 1 victory for Wellington taking us to the regional finals to be played later this term.

Well done to all the team and special thanks to Mr. Henderson for all his time and effort he puts in to support us whenever we need it.

Murray Rose
