The Economics Department

END OF MICHAELMAS WORKSHOP PLAN...
What do Ronald Reagan, Ted Turner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mick Jagger, Tiger Woods and Kofi Annan have in common? Yes, you guessed it: they all take their coffee white with one sugar! In fact, they all majored in economics at university although one of them didn't feel the need to finish his degree. One year of economics was enough for him to conquer the golfing world.
What is clear though is that economics has long been considered the choice subject of many of society's leaders. Whether it is your own welfare you are aiming to improve , or the welfare of others, economics gives us an insight into the levers of wealth and well-being.
Economics offers us a framework by which the world can be ordered and understood. It helps us construct reasoned responses to the most complex scenarios while understanding that it is just one perspective, only one window on the world.
