Cranleigh School vs Wellington College, 12-5-2011.

An inexperienced Wellington side travelled to Cranleigh School to play in 16 over a side match.  Cranleigh won the toss and chose to field first.  This suited Wellington's captain Lissy MacLeod, as along with opening partner Hattie Jones, they put the Cranleigh bowlers to the sword with an highly impressive hundred opening partnership.  England Women Academy's Macleod was first out trying to increase the tempo more caught on the deep mid wicket boundary for a commanding 43 with 9 boundary 4's .  Hattie Jones followed shortly afterwards for an identical 43, including 6 fours and 1 six, which was an outstanding display of power hitting. Hattie has only been playing for a year and this is just reward for all the practice she has put into her batting.  Wellington finished their innings having scored 120.

Cranleigh reply was immediately in trouble as Emma Woollhead took a wicket in the first over supported by Bianca De Villiers running catch.  Cranleigh recovered well putting on a 50 partnership for the 2nd wicket.  New recruit Naomi Boobyer made the break through bowling Cranleigh's number 3.  With Wellington determined to give all the girls ago another new recruit Kate Milliken-Smith took 2 wickets in two balls and was only an inside edge away from taking a hat trick.  Cranleigh crept over the line in the final over winning by 6 wickets with 5 balls to spare.

Coach Dudley Graham would like to thank Cranleigh for their hospitality, Amy Bowering for scoring, Miss Murphy for driving the girls and an extra special thanks to all the girls who stepped up to play at the last minute, I hope you enjoyed the experience.

The girls continue their preparation for the Australian Victorian State touring side Tuesday and Thursday afternoons by the pink pavilion starting 4pm.  New players are very welcome and you come and give cricket a try after your other sports.
