Should I be scared of acids?
This unit focuses on Health and Social and regards the way we interact with various chemicals we come into contact with. From Vinegar to Vomit, Ants to Antacids we will be looking at the reactions of acids and dangers associated with exposure to acids.
Questions that we will answer:
What is an acid? What is a base?
How do we measure acidity?
What happens when an acid reacts with a base?
What useful reactions can we use acids for?
How do we remove excess acid from the body?
The end of topic assessment in this unit is an experiment to analyse data from an experiment into antacids. It will be assessed based on Criteria E and F and will predominantly take place in a normal class experiment. The rest of the assessment will be the interpretation of the data and the way the pupils work in the classroom as part of a team and as a responsible scientist.
